The 1922 locomotive

Red lips! I know, you've never seen it here but I do wear red lipstick sometimes ;) Especially on very cold days when my face is ghosty white and when I'm too lazy to put some eyeliner on. And, when it matches my favorite 1950s coat! This has been probably the best purchase I've ever done on Etsy, it fits like if it was custom made especially for me but it actually belonged to a woman named Geraldine. Apparently she was from the Eastern part of the US, a model in her younger years - I love the fact that models at that time could have measurements like mine! - and then a hairdresser, the lady who sold the coat to me even listed her hairdressing robe at some point :) 
Geraldine died this year at 96 and here comes the crazy part: she NEVER got rid of anything from her wardrobe. The estate sale that was held for her counted about 10.000 pieces of clothing, she lived in a three bedroom house in San Diego and two of her bedrooms were used only to keep her clothes. Can you imagine it? And I thought I was mad...

Lo so, finora non se ne era ancora vista traccia qui, ma giuro che ogni tanto lo metto anch'io ;) Soprattutto quando fa talmente freddo che la faccia mi diventa color fantasma e quando sono troppo pigra per mettermi l'eyeliner. E anche quando si abbina così bene al mio cappotto anni '50 preferito! Questo e' stato probabilmente il mio migliore acquisto fatto su Etsy, mi sta come se fosse stato fatto da una sarta sulle mie misure, invece apparteneva a una donna di nome Geraldine. A quanto pare era originaria della regione orientale degli Stati Uniti, modella nella sua giovinezza - adoro il fatto che una modella di quel tempo potesse avere delle forme come le mie! - e in seguito acconciatrice, la signora che mi ha venduto il cappotto aveva ancora la sua divisa da lavoro :) Geraldine morì pochi mesi fa all'eta di 96 anni e qui viene la parte assurda: lei non diede mai via NULLA del suo guardaroba. L'asta che venne organizzata per i suoi abiti conto' circa 10.000 pezzi d'abbigliamento, viveva in una casa di San Diego con tre camere da letto e le due piu' grandi erano dedicate esclusivamente a contenere i suoi vestiti. Ve lo immaginate? E pensavo di essere io la matta...

Update: Clumsy old me! I completely forgot to mention the beautiful locomotive that stands in the background of all these pictures :) It comes straight from 1922 and in perfect Delorean style it landed just in the middle of the town, as part of the celebration of 150 years since the unification of Italy.

I find it so charming and, with the silence of a lazy sunday and a bit of fantasy (and a pretty old coat), it almost felt like if we travelled back in time! At the end of the month it will come back to where it came from so Alf and I thought that it was just too unique not to be photographed!

Update: ora ne avete la prova, sono completamente rimbambita! Mi ero dimenticata di raccontarvi della splendida locomotiva che fa da sfondo a queste foto :) Arriva dritta dal 1922 e si e' teletrasportata come una Delorean proprio in mezzo alla citta', in occasione dei festeggiamenti per i 150 anni dell'unita' d'Italia. Io la trovo bellissima e, con il silenzio della domenica e un po' di fantasia (e un cappotto che ha anche lui i suoi anni), sembrava davvero di ritrovarsi lì tanti, tanti anni fa! Alla fine del mese ripartira' per tornare al suo luogo di origine, così Alf e io abbiamo pensato che fosse davvero troppo bella per non andarla a fotografare. Se in questi giorni vi capita di andare a visitare le storiche Officine Grandi Riparazioni prima che chiudano, non lasciatevela scappare :)
