By Hand - Winter 2011

I'm back, eventually :) Sorry for the silent week, after endless sleepless nights at the drawing desk to finish my book I just needed to treat myself with a few lazy days far from any computer, emails, photoshop and bright monitors: it-was-amazing!

But I couldn't wait to share with you some of the pictures I took last friday at the By Hand event, a cute fair dedicated to independent designers (here the full list) handmade clothing and accessories. I've been there already last spring with my partner in crime Cècile and this time it was even more fun than I expected!

Eccomi :) Perdonate la settimana silenziosa, dopo le innumerevoli notti insonni sulla scrivania per finire il mio ultimo libro illustrato mi sono concessa qualche meritato giorno di disintossicazione da computer, email, photoshop e schermi luminosi: e' stato bellissimo! 

Pero' non vedevo l'ora di mostrarvi alcune delle foto che ho scattato venerdì scorso al By Hand, un evento carinissimo dedicato alle creazioni di designer e artigiani indipendenti (qui la lista completa) che avevo gia' adorato in primavera, e che anche stavolta ho condiviso con la mia partner-del-delitto Cécile.

The location of this winter edition was simply enchanting: a XVIII century building in the very centre of Turin, I've been walking around it countless times but never had the chance to visit it throughly. Every room was gorgeous, halls full of ornaments and elegant details but what really stole my heart was the courtyard, with those two wide loggias, the arcs and that warm light. I love my town, after all this years it still manages to leave me speechless!

Il luogo che ha ospitato il By Hand in questa edizione invernale era a dir poco incantevole: Palazzo Saluzzo Paesana, un edificio del Settecento nel cuore di Torino davanti cui, proprio come come Cécile, sono passata centinaia di volte ma mai avevo avuto occasione di visitarne gli interni. Tutte le sale erano meravigliose ma cio' che mi e' rimasto piu' nel cuore e' stato il cortile, con quella doppia balconata, gli archi e quella luce così calda. Adoro la mia città, dopo tanti anni riesco sempre a trovare qualcosa che mi lascia a bocca aperta!

And here we are all together, Cécile and myself surrounded by the lovely ladies of Arti.Sani: (from left) Chiara of Pommes de Claire, with her amazing high sartorial quality coats and dresses, Giulia Boccafogli, a sweet gal behind the prettiest handmade accessories, Annapaola of Le Chou Chou, as beautiful as her tea time inspired new collection, and La Zia Epi, simply adorable, I still think of one of her blouses embellished with a collar full of tiny squirrels! We had such a fun time playing dress up and couldn't help but come back home with a few of their cute creations, which I'm sure you'll see very soon :)

Ed eccoci tutte insieme, io e Cécile circondate dalle deliziose fanciulle di Arti.Sani: (da sinistra) Chiara di Pommes de Claire, i cui cappottini e abiti di alta qualita' sartoriale ci hanno messe in seria difficolta', Giulia Boccafogli, designer troppo simpatica di gioielli e accessori davvero carini, Annapaola di Le Chou Chou, bellissima tanto lei quanto la sua nuova collezione di bijoux ispirate all'ora del tè e La Zia Epi, assolutamente adorabile, ho ancora nella testa una sua blusa con il colletto pieno di scoiattoli! Le loro creazioni ci hanno fatte innamorare ancora una volta, ci siamo divertite come matte a provare praticamente tutto e siamo tornate a casa con un sacco di cose bellissime che vedrete presto :)
