Ghosty Polaroids

As promised, here are some of the Polaroid shots we took (well, Alf took!) during our walk in the woods on friday. You have no idea of how excited we were every time a photo came out of the camera!

We didn't expect they would have turned out sepia toned, it was a beautiful surprise. I didn't do any retouching, just scanned and cropped them. 

The Polaroid was a gift from my parents for my 5th birthday and it was amazing to find it back after so many years.

Come promesso, ecco alcune scansioni delle Polaroid che abbiamo scattato (beh, che Alf ha scattato!) durante la nostra passeggiata nei boschi lo scorso venerdì. Non potete immaginare come saltellavamo euforici appena le foto uscivano dalla macchina fotografica! 

Non ci aspettavamo che si sarebbero sviluppate in toni così seppiati, e' stata una bellissima sorpresa. Le foto sono semplicemente scansionate e ritagliate, non c'e' stato alcun ritocco. 

La Polaroid mi era stata regalata quando ho compiuto 5 anni ed e' stato fantastico ritrovarla dopo tanto tempo.

Fleur in the woods

Friday was a gorgeously sunny day and, while pretending to be working, I started to dream about how to spend this sunday, imagining long walks and picnics under the sun. Accuweather.com didn't agree with me though, picturing a weekend under the rain! I couldn't stand that, so Alf and I decided to anticipate it and run immediately outside: magic of the freelance work!

Venerdì mattina era una splendida giornata e, invece di lavorare, fantasticavo su come trascorrere questa domenica, pensando gia' a passeggiate all'aria aperta e picnic sotto il sole. Accuweather.com pero' non era d'accordo con me e per il fine settimana prevedeva pioggia! Non potevo accettarlo. E così io e Alf abbiamo deciso di anticipare il weekend e scappare subito a goderci il sole: magia del lavoro freelance!

We returned to Stupinigi woods, the colors were so different than last time we were there last autumn, it seemed to be walking in a totally new place! Spring has finally arrived, it felt amazing to stay outside without wearing a coat :)

Siamo tornati nei boschi di Stupinigi, i colori sono cambiati così tanto dalla nostra ultima visita lo scorso autunno, sembrava di camminare in un posto completamente diverso! La primavera piano piano e' arrivata, mi e' sembrato un miracolo poter stare completamente a mio agio senza cappotto :)

 

When we decided to come to this place I couldn't help but wear immediately my Nadinoo dress, it has become one of my favorite. I love it, it's practical and romantic at the same time, the Liberty fabric is so soft and impeccably tailored. Oh, and it's got pockets! It might sound silly but when a dress does have pockets it really puts a smile on my face :) Nadia's clothes must have seriously been made with some kind of pixie dust, because every time I wear them I immediately feel happier!

Quando abbiamo deciso di venire in questo posto non ho potuto fare a meno di correre a indossare subito il mio abito di Nadinoo, e' diventato decisamente uno dei miei preferiti. Lo sto adorando, e' pratico ma romantico, il tessuto Liberty e' morbidissimo e la qualita' sartoriale e' impeccabile. Oh, e ha le tasche! Sembrera' un dettaglio trascurabile ma quando un vestito ha anche le tasche per me sono cento punti in piu' :) Ad ogni modo, gli abiti di Nadia hanno qualcosa di magico perche', oltre ad essere così graziosi, riescono a mettermi immediatamente di buonumore!  

The wood was full of curious squirrels and this time they came very close to us! When I saw the first one I said "ha, it's got Julius' tail!" :)

Il bosco era pieno di scoiattoli e alcuni di loro stavolta sono venuti vicinissimi a noi! Quando ho visto il primo avvicinarsi ho detto "toh, ha la coda come quella di Julius!" :)

We also took some pictures with my old Polaroid, giving it new life has been so, so exciting! I'll show them in the next post.

Durante la nostra passeggiata abbiamo scattato anche qualche foto con la mia vecchia Polaroid, rimetterla in vita e' stata un'emozione incredibile! Ve le mostrero' nel prossimo post.

And speaking of handmade, this lovely shoulder bag comes from French & English Confectioners. It's tiny, as most of my bags are, but maybe I never mentioned my extraordinary abilities when it comes to fitting a whole world into the smallest space! Wallet, moleskine, phone, keys, pencils, a lipgloss, bobbypins, my camera and a wool half-bitten mouse toy that my cat hid in there for some reason... Sooner or later I will make one of those "What's in my bag?" posts, it would be so much fun ;)

E, sempre in tema di handmade, questa borsetta meravigliosa e' stata fatta da French & English Confectioners. E' minuscola, come la maggior parte delle mie borse, ma forse non vi ho mai parlato della mia abilita' nel fare entrare l'impossibile in questi piccoli spazi! Portafoglio, moleskine, telefono, fazzoletti, chiavi, matite, lucidalabbra, un po' di mollette, la mia micro macchina fotografica e un topino di pezza mozzicato che un gatto di mia conoscenza ha pensato di infilarci di nascosto... Prima o poi dovro' fare anch'io uno di quei post "What's in my bag?", ci sara' da ridere ;)

Darimeya

Girly mini dresses, peter pan collars, floral prints, fun socks and chunky heels: practically all I want to wear this season! How cute are these outfits?

I stumbled upon Darimeya a couple of years ago during a work trip to London, and I immediately fell in love with the romantic feel to it and all the quirky prints. The quality of the dresses is very good and the satin ones are so soft!

Last winter my mom gave me the prettiest blue princess coat (you've probably seen it here) that definitely became one of my favorites and a few months ago I bought a very cute umbrella-print dress that I've been wearing over and over and over again :)

Now the spring collection is finally out! I love the first dress (oh those ruffles...!) and the lace one is simple and incredibly versatile, it can turn an afternoon walk in the park into a lovely dinner just changing the accessories. I'll keep it in mind next time I'll go to the vintage fair!

Vestitini tagliati in vita, colletti arrotondati, stampe floreali, calzini colorati e mary jane col plateau: praticamente tutto cio' che desidero indossare questa stagione! Quanto sono carini questi mini abiti? 

Darimeya e' una marca che ho conosciuto un paio di anni fa durante un viaggio di lavoro a Londra, e mi e' subito piaciuta per le sue stampe originali e le linee un po' romantiche. La qualita' dei tessuti e' ottima e in particolare i vestiti in raso sono morbidissimi. 

Lo scorso inverno mia madre mi ha regalato un cappottino blu che e' diventato subito uno dei miei preferiti (lo avete probabilmente visto qui) e qualche mese fa ho acquistato un vestito con una stampa a ombrellini che non mi stanchero' mai di indossare :) 

E finalmente e' arrivata la collezione nuova! Il primo abito e' un amore (lo sbircio da giorni), quei dettagli sulle spalle sono così dolci! E quello in pizzo ha un taglio molto semplice e femminile che lo rende incredibilmente versatile, cambiando gli accessori si trasforma in un attimo da una passeggiata pomeridiana nel parco a una serata speciale. Lo terro' a mente la prossima volta che mi faro' un giro nei mercatini vintage!

Pixie's Plume dress

Normally I would never let anyone take pictures of me early in the morning, especially when I have messy hair and my slippers still on. But today I made a little exception :) The postman woke me up and in the parcel there was the prettiest dress ever. As you might know by now I'm probably Nadinoo's biggest fan and this is the kind of dress that really makes you feel like a princess. Even when you have slippers on! :)

Normalmente non permetterei mai a nessuno di farmi delle foto di primo mattino, soprattutto se i miei capelli sembrano cotonati e ho ancora le pantofole. Ma oggi ho fatto una piccola eccezione :) Sono stata svegliata dal postino, e nel pacco c'era il vestito piu' delizioso del mondo. Ormai probabilmente vi sarete accorti che sono una grande fan di Nadinoo e questo e' il genere di abito che ti fa davvero sentire una principessa. Anche con le pantofole! :)

Vintage find: lovely pleats

Yet another rainy day here in Turin... It will be spring in just a few days, but to me this looks more like november! 

I thought that it was about time to share some of my vintage finds with you, this is probably my favorite one and I really look forward to wearing it.

Qui a Torino continua a piovere, tra pochi giorni saremo in primavera ma a me sembra di essere a novembre! 

Ho pensato di condividere con voi uno dei miei ritrovamenti vintage, forse il mio preferito, che non vedo l'ora di indossare.  

Alf's mom used to wear this pale yellow beauty in the 50s, she gave it to me a few months ago and you have no idea of how my expression looked like when I found it... those tiny pleats on the collar are adorable.

I could say that most of my vintage wardrobe comes from her attic and, other than the quantity of things she still keeps, what really drives me nuts is the quality, the attention and the love that she put while storing everything at the time. This lovely dress is simply perfect, now I just have to find a pretty slip and voila', I'm ready for a picnic in the sun!

Questo abito apparteneva alla mamma di Alf ed e' un piccolo tesoro degli anni '50. Me lo ha regalato qualche mese fa, e non potete immaginare la mia espressione quando lo trovai in mezzo a tanti vestiti... quel collo a piegoline e' qualcosa di incantevole.

Potrei dire con certezza che la maggior parte del mio guardaroba vintage proviene dai suoi bauli e, oltre alla quantita' di abiti che ha ancora, la cosa che ogni volta mi lascia sconvolta e' la qualita' e la cura con cui tutto e' conservato. Questa delizia color giallo chiaro e' semplicemente in condizioni perfette, ora dovro' solo trovare una sottoveste adatta e voila', pronta per un picnic all'aria aperta!

Of course Julius couldn't resist to something strange hanging by the window and he had to check it out while I was taking the pictures :)

Ovviamente Julius non ha resistito nel vedere qualcosa di strano appeso davanti alla finestra e ha dovuto intrufolarsi mentre scattavo le fotografie :) 

White and Cream

One of the things I'm looking more forward to this spring/summer is walking around in white and cream dresses, possibly carrying my straw bag and a cute hat. Even just thinking about it feels so refreshing! The H&M Conscious Collection is about to hit the shops and it's full of romantic and fun to wear pieces made with more sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton and recycled polyester. Aren't those shorts absolutely sweet? :)

Una delle cose che non vedo l'ora di fare questa primavera e' passeggiare per la citta' indossando abiti bianchi e color crema, possibilmente con la mia borsa di paglia e un cappello carino. Anche solo fantasticare di farlo mi fa sentire gia' piu' leggera! La Conscious Collection di H&M sta per uscire ed e' piena di abiti romantici e spensierati, creati utilizzando materiali piu' sostenibili, come il cotone organico e il poliestere riciclato. Non sono terribilmente deliziosi quegli shorts? :)

This spring they're also collaborating with Swedish Hasbeens and I have to say I'm particularly excited about that! I just got my first pair of "sky high" clogs (the T-strap ones in black) and they're surprisingly comfortable, I immediately fell in love with them. So I'm definitely keeping an eye on those lovely white sandals, which will also be available in red. I can't decide which ones I like the most to be honest!

Questa primavera H&M collaborera' inoltre con Swedish Hasbeens e devo dire che la cosa mi esalta particolarmente! Oggi pomeriggio ho ricevuto il mio primo paio di "sky-high" (il modello T-strap, in versione nera) e, nonostante l'altezza, sono sorprendentemente comode, le ho adorate dal primo istante. Peccato che abbia ordinato il numero sbagliato e quindi ora mi tocchera' affrontare tutto l'ambaradan della sostituzione prima di poterle indossare :) Per tornare alla collezione, terro' decisamente d'occhio quegli adorabili sandali bianchi, che saranno disponibili anche in rosso... mi raccomando concittadine, non me le rubate ;)

Anne of Green Gables

Sorry for my long absence... I spent 10 long sick days in bed, It's been ages that I didn't feel so miserable! I'm afraid I was punished for having worked too hard in the past couple of months... :)
During this week of sweet doing nothing, I had the chance to see an old friend, a very special friend from my childhood. Her name is Anne.

Perdonate la mia lunga assenza... era dai tempi della scuola che non mi ammalavo così, prima la febbre alta, poi il raffreddore, la tosse e infine un mal di schiena fulminante per mettermi definitivamente al tappeto! Temo di essere stata punita per aver lavorato troppo negli ultimi mesi... :)
Durante questa settimana di dolcissimo far niente, una vecchia amica mi ha tenuto compagnia, un'amica speciale che non rivedevo dai meravigliosi anni ottanta. Il suo nome e' Anne.

When it comes to animation, people often tend to think "Oh, that's kids stuff". I can't help but feeling sad. Animation is just a medium to tell a story, and it's got nothing less than a movie with real actors. To me, the fact that it requires so much work and the talent and poetry of amazing artists and painters, it's actually more.

Quando si parla di cartoni animati il primo pensiero delle persone e' solitamente "Ah, roba da bambini". Nulla di piu' sbagliato. L'animazione non e' che uno degli strumenti che possono essere usati per raccontare una storia bellissima, e non ha nulla in meno rispetto a un film interpretato da persone vere, anzi, il fatto che richieda tanto lavoro in piu', il talento e la poesia di disegnatori e pittori strepitosi, per me e' un valore aggiunto. 

The japanese tv series Anne of Green Gables ('79) is an adaptation of the novel by the well known canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery.
It's a beautiful piece of art and it's a season of the World Masterpiece Theatre project, a number of tv series based on classics of literature from around the world, produced by Nippon Animation over the course of 30 years.
This story had me crying my soul out from the very first episode, in the best possible way, and I had the chance of rediscovering a true masterpiece.

La serie giapponese Anne of Green Gables (del '79) e' un adattamento del famoso romanzo di Lucy Maud Montgomery, autrice canadese dei primi anni del novecento. 
E' un'opera di una bellezza artistica incredibile e fa parte del "World Masterpiece Theatre", un progetto dello studio di animazione Nippon (che contava talenti come Isao Takahata e Hayao Miyazaki), nato per far conoscere la letteratura occidentale al pubblico giapponese. 
Questa serie mi ha commossa dal primo episodio all'ultimo, ne sono uscita completamente devastata (nel senso piu' positivo che possa esistere) ed ho riscoperto un vero e proprio, sottovalutatissimo, capolavoro. 

Now, I'm even afraid to talk about it as I don't want to spoil it. Every minute of this story is precious and every little detail is such a darling surprise. 
Just imagine immense green fields, apple blossom trails, afternoons spent under a blue sky reading adventurous books or having tea with your best friend. 
Think that you could turn the dullest dark dress into a romantic peach colored frock with puff sleeves, just with the power of your imagination. Make the walls of your attic dissolve into a beautiful forest scenery, just using a bit of fantasy.

Ho addirittura paura di parlarne perche' non voglio dir nulla che possa rovinarvelo, ogni minuto di questa serie e' fondamentale al racconto e ogni piccolo dettaglio e' una sorpresa che vi sciogliera' il cuore. 
Pensate a prati verdi sconfinati, viali di meli in fiore, pomeriggi trascorsi all'aria aperta leggendo libri che vi portano lontano o prendendo il te' con la vostra amica del cuore. 
Pensate che il potere dell'immaginazione possa trasformare un triste vestito scuro in un meraviglioso abito rosa con le maniche a sbuffo. O una soffitta buia in una prateria sconfinata, solo con un po' di fantasia.

Anne is an incredible kid, she's not pictured as one of the pretty girls, she's thin, she's got freckles and messy red hair, and she knows it. But it's her spirit that brightens up everything around her, and we're constantly brought into her surreal, impressionist and romantic world. 
This series focuses particularly on the character's psychology, making them believable, real. If it was only a bunch of drawings and paintings, then how could they have thoughts, mood and strong personality? How could they give true emotions to an audience? This is what I find charming in animation and to me, it's just magical.

Anne e' una bambina incredibile, non e' bella come le sue compagne, e' magra, ha le lentiggini e i suoi capelli disordinati hanno un colore che la fanno sentire in difetto. Ma e' il suo spirito che illumina chiunque intorno a lei e che lo vogliamo o no, siamo costantemente travolti nel suo mondo, surreale e romantico.
Questa e' una serie che punta particolarmente alla caratterizzazione dei personaggi, li rende credibili, veri. Se fossero solo una manciata di disegni e di dipinti, come potrebbero allora trasmettere pensieri, sensazioni e sentimenti? Come potrebbero emozionare così tanto una persona? Questo e' cio' che mi affascina dell'animazione e per me e' vera magia.

This is the case where the director and his writers actually "knew" the original material and loved the story, truly feeling it. They throughly understood the subtleties of the various characters, their unique traits and behaviors. 
Even the locations reproduce closely the real landscapes from Prince Edward Island, and the Green Gables house is actually based on the "real" house (the one that today serves as an international museum to Maud Montgomery's characters).
All this attention to details, a hallmark of japanese animation, made this version of Anne of Green Gables the closest one to the original book and definitely the most emotional one.

Questo e' un caso in cui il regista e gli sceneggiatori conoscevano profondamente il materiale originale, amavano la storia e i suoi personaggi, li sentivano ormai dentro di se' ed erano in grado di caratterizzarli utilizzando le piu' sottili sfumature. 
Anche le location ricostruiscono i veri paesaggi dell'isola di Prince Edward, e la casa di Green Gables e' stata realizzata tenendo la "vera" casa come modello (quella che oggi e' il museo internazionale di Maud Montgomery). 
Tutta questa attenzione al dettaglio, che e' tipica dell'animazione giapponese, ha reso questa versione di Anne of Green Gables la piu' fedele al libro e la piu' emotivamente carica.

I strongly suggest to watch this series in Japanese, with english subtitles as it makes a HUGE difference. I started watching it in Italian, then I decided that I wanted to see and hear what the director actually had in mind. I was right, it was a totally different world and it was then that I fell in love with it.
Anne's performance is wonderful, her readings are impeccable and full of energy.

Se leggete facilmente in inglese, vi consiglio caldamente di guardare questa serie in Giapponese con sottotitoli, perche' la differenza e' enorme. Io ho iniziato guardandola in Italiano, poi ho deciso che volevo sentire il vero suono di cio' che il regista aveva voluto, ed e' li' che me ne sono innamorata.
L'interpretazione di Anne e' qualcosa di stupefacente, una performance assolutamente perfetta.

I didn't expect I would have ever said it, but I am glad I fell sick last week.
I honestly believe that watching Anne of Green Gables is one of the best experiences one can treasure.

Non credevo avrei mai detto una cosa simile, ma sono felice di essermi ammalata la settimana scorsa. 
Io credo onestamente che vedere questa serie sia una delle esperienze piu' belle che vi possa capitare nella vita.
