Sounds of the woods

I do realize I'm obsessed, but honestly how could I not share this adorable lookbook?

I've already showed you a sneak peek of the Nadinoo A/W collection when Genevieve and I spent a lovely day in Manchester with Nadia, who was so kind to let us play dress up with some of these beautiful dresses - I am still smitten by how perfectly pretty everything looked! And it's not even over yet, this is just her Autumn collection... the Winter lookbook is going to look just as cute, and I already know there's a couple of things I will dearly look forward to :)

E vabbe' lo so che sono ossessionata, pero' potevo mica non postarlo, questo lookbook e' un incanto!

Vi avevo gia' mostrato un'anteprima della collezione autunnale di Nadinoo quando io e la mia amica Genevieve abbiamo trascorso un'intera giornata a Manchester insieme a Nadia, che e' stata così adorabile da farci provare tutti questi abiti, uno piu' carino dell'altro. E non e' nemmeno finita qui, questa e' solo la collezione autunnale... tra poco arrivera' anche quella dedicata all'inverno e, a parte un paio di cosine che conosco e alle quali so gia' che cedero' all'istante, sara' una sorpresa anche per me!

And now onto my favorites (well Christmas is getting closer, I shall start giving hints here! ;)

Being said that I'm in love with everything, I decided that I'm going to be a practical lady this season, aiming to pieces that offer lots of fun layering options. The dusky rose pinafore was love at first sight, with all those buttons and the flattering bow belt. I would wear it from Autumn to Spring, paired with either a classic tailored shirt or a peter pan collar blouse with short scalloped sleeves, under a soft wool cropped cardigan or even on top of a thin cashmere turtleneck. 

A few days ago I found a vintage midi skirt in my closet, it was totally unexpected as I remember I wanted to list it in my Etsy shop last year. Thank goodness I didn't, it's got practically the same color palette of the pretty skirt below! So as you can imagine, it naturally calls for a red silk blouse with a gorgeous petal collar :)

Andiamo ai preferiti (beh Natale si avvicina, bisognera' pur cominciare a lanciarli sti segnali! ;)

Premesso che mi piace tutto, ho deciso che stavolta saro' una signorina pratica: puntero' ai capi che potrei indossare piu' spesso e che offrono piu' possibilita' di abbinamento. Al primo posto metto lo scamiciato rosa antico coi bottoni davanti, che e' stato amore a prima vista e metterei dall'autunno alla primavera, sia con una camicia classica che con una blusa femminile a maniche corte, sopra a un dolcevita in cashmere molto sottile o sotto un cardigan di lana morbida. 

Qualche giorno fa invece ho trovato per caso nel mio armadio una gonna che l'anno scorso volevo addirittura vendere su Etsy... quando l'ho vista non ci potevo credere,  ha la stessa palette di colori della longuette qui sotto! Ahhh il destino... di conseguenza questa camicia rossa di seta col colletto petaloso dovra' per forza essere mia :)

One boot, two feet!

Mmm, apparently Mr Autumn doesn't want to cooperate this year...I've been waiting for it to arrive so much, only last week I was still sporting bare legs but now it suddenly became mad cold and here I am with a winter coat plus scarf shivering in the morning! But instead of walking off with a grump, I decided to bring a bit of Autumn spirit with me and cheer up wearing my favorite colors of the moment.

And Alf helped me out, with his matching mustard trousers :)

Brrr! Ma ma.. e l'autunno?! L'ho aspettato così tanto e gia' me lo fanno sparire! Stamattina qui a Torino faceva un freddo malefico, passare dalle maniche corte a cappotto e sciarpa in neanche una settimana non fa mica bene! Vabbe', e quindi ho pensato che invece di borbottare e farmi venire il mal di testa era il caso di portare io un po' di autunno fuori! E a quanto pare anche Alf, coi suoi bei pantaloni color senape, mi ha dato una mano :)

These boots are the softest, fluffiest thing my feet have ever slipped in (they're all plushy inside >_<), but before thinking we're both completely nuts I shall explain you why we're being silly sharing them in the middle of the street! They're from Swedish Hasbeens' new unisex collection, which is been launched along with a fun photography contest in order to support the idea of equality between men and women. 

Now, on one hand I certainly wouldn't have picked heels to walk on a path of wet leaves and on the other hand Alf and I are the same shoe size... so there was really no better occasion than this for goofing around and giving our little contribute to the cause ;)

Questi stivali sono la cosa piu' morbida e comodosa del mondo (dentro c'e' il peloucheee >_<), ma prima di pensare che stavolta siamo impazziti sia io che la mia dolce meta' vi spieghero' come mai ne abbiamo ai piedi uno ciascuno! Fanno parte della nuova collezione di Swedish Hasbeens (di cui come forse avrete notato quest'estate sono stata una sfegatata sostenitrice), collezione che questa volta e' unisex e che e' stata lanciata insieme a un concorso fotografico molto carino a cui si partecipa in due e il cui obiettivo e' sostenere e diffondere il messaggio di uguaglianza tra uomini e donne.

Ora, su un tappeto di foglie umide non potevo di sicuro andarci coi tacchi, e io e Alf portiamo lo stesso numero di scarpe... quindi quale occasione migliore per fare gli stupidi al parco e dare il nostro mini contributo? :)

So here's how to entry the contest:

- you will receive a link to your picture on the official competition page. Share it with your friends and get them vote for you!

- there are 2 prizes:

One picture will be selected by PUBLIC VOTES - the prize is 2 pair of unisex shoes, one for the boy and one for the girl in the picture.

One picture will be selected by SWEDISH HASBEENS - again, the prize is 2 pair of unisex shoes, one for the boy and one for the girl in the picture.

- the contest will end on the 25th of November.

That's it! I think this competition can be a lot of fun, and I especially appreciate the fact that there is a real jury prize other than the usual prize generated by the number of votes, which makes everything fair and equal for everyone.

Dovrei essermi ricordata tutto! Happy birthday Mary Blair!

I was so pleased with Google's homepage doodle this morning! I love the idea of millions of people finding out about Mary Blair's influence on traditional animation today. She is probably my favorite illustrator ever, I've been dreaming on her gorgeous paintings since I was a little girl, I owned a few vintage children's books that I've been adoring (see last picture!) and only later on, when I started studying art and animation, I discovered it was HER! 

I'm sure most of you came across her work at least once in your life, either if you spent your childhood watching good old Disney classics like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan or Cinderella, or if you just ran screaming from "It's a Small World" in Disneyland for fear that the song would get stuck in your head for days. 

Mary's bold and colorful style has inspired many artists all over the world, including myself. She was a strong and innovative woman with an amazing sense of fantasy and childhood. Walt Disney loved her art and promoted it largely in his productions, which sounded odd to many people working there as her work is flat, antirealist and naif, basically opposite to the classic image associated with Disney films. Plus, in a male-dominated studio in prefeminist days, a lot of artists questioned why so much creative power was given to a woman. No wonder why I admire her so much!

And should I mention she was an incredibly stylish lady herself? :)

Quando stamattina ho aperto la homepage di Google sono stata contentissima! E' fantastico per me pensare che milioni di persone oggi abbiano scoperto di Mary Blair e della sua incredibile influenza sul cinema d'animazione. E' la mia illustratrice preferita di sempre, ho trascorso ore a sognare sui suoi splendidi dipinti quando ero piccola, avevo alcuni vecchi libri di cartone degli anni '60 che ho adorato e consumato (guardate l'ultima foto!) e solo anni dopo, quando ho iniziato a studiare arte e animazione, ho scoperto che erano suoi! 

Sono certa che la maggior parte di voi in un modo o nell'altro ha incontrato qualcuno dei suoi lavori nel corso della vita, sia che abbiate passato l'infanzia guardando vecchi film Disney come Alice nel paese delle meraviglie, Peter Pan o Cenerentola, sia che siate usciti correndo dall'attrazione "It's a Small World" a Disneyland col terrore che la canzoncina vi si infilasse nelle orecchie per giorni. 

Lo stile deciso e pieno di colore di Mary ha ispirato un'infinita' di artisti in tutto il mondo, me compresa. Era una donna forte e innovativa con una fantasia irrefrenabile e uno spiccato talento nel riflettere il mondo dell'infanzia nelle sue opere. Walt Disney amava il suo lavoro e l'ha coinvolta largamente nelle sue produzioni, cosa che suono' strana  a molta gente che lavorava lì, dal momento che il suo stile era piatto, non realistico e naif, praticamente l'opposto dell'immagine classica associata ai film Disney. Oltretutto in uno studio dominato da figure maschili, in un periodo pre-femminista, parecchi artisti lamentarono il fatto che tanto potere fosse stato dato ad una donna. Inutile dire quanto la ammiri!

E c'e' forse bisogno di aggiungere quanto stile avesse nel vestire lei stessa? :)

A simple saturday

Last saturday has been pleasantly lazy, the sort of slow day to recharge your batteries and just do whatever makes you feel good, which in my case implies a big slice of chocolate cake and a cup of "Winter tea", a blend of chinese dark tea, bits of almonds, candied orange peel, cloves and cornflower, it's delicious!

Lazy day and kind of lazy outfit as you might have noticed :) Tent shape is what I always go for when I just need to feel comfortable, and this cute corduroy dress doesn't really need much styling as it's got an adorable peter pan collar detail and that pretty pocket on one side (that I used to collect chestnuts during the day). I found it on ebay a couple of weeks ago and luckily won the auction for a real bargain price, I was so happy! Plus, the color feels so autumnal and goes with lots of different things in my closet, needless to say I've been practically living in this dress lately :)

Sabato e' stato quel genere di giornata assolutamente lenta e pigra di cui hai bisogno per ricaricare le batterie, facendo solo quelle piccole cose che ti fanno stare bene, che nel mio caso implicano una merenda a base di megafetta di torta al cioccolato e una tazza di "Tè dell'Inverno", fatto con tè nero, pezzettini di mandorle, scorze di arancia, chiodi di garofano e fiordaliso, e' delizioso!

Giornata pigra e mise altrettanto pigra a quanto pare :) Gli abiti a trapezio sono cio' che indosso piu' volentieri quando ho solo voglia di sentirmi comoda, e questo vestito in velluto a coste non ha bisogno di accessori particolari che lo completino, grazie a quel colletto rotondo e alla tasca sul lato (che ho riempito di castagne passeggiando). L'ho scovato su ebay un paio di settimane fa e con un po' di fortuna ho vinto l'asta a un prezzo bassissimo, ero stracontenta! In piu', quel colore e' così caldo e autunnale e si abbina perfettamente a un sacco di cose che ho nell'armadio, inutile dire che l'ho indossato spessissimo da quando e' arrivato :)

Sessun A/W 2011

I find Sessun's autumn collection so inspiring. I really love the color palette, these are pretty much the shades I use to live in all through autumn and winter. They all work beautifully together, especially the combination of burnt orange and navy. I am a big fan of neutrals, but when it's cold and stormy outside and you're surrounded by people wearing the usual blacks and grays and dark browns, you just need to wrap yourself in something bright and warm that cheers you up :)

La collezione di Sessun e' una delle mie preferite in assoluto questo autunno. La palette di colori mi piace tantissimo, sono esattamente le tonalita' che uso di piu' durante i mesi freddi e stanno molto bene abbinate insieme, soprattutto la combinazione terra bruciata e blu navy. I colori neutri mi piacciono molto nei mesi freddi, ma quando fuori piove, tira il vento e sei circondata da gente che indossa i soliti neri, grigi e marroni scuri, hai come il bisogno di qualcosa di caldo e luminoso per scaldarti l'umore :)
