The Travelling Find

The most romantic thing in wearing a vintage garment for me is day dreaming about its history, how the lady who owned it looked like, how she used to style it and how the styling itself changed and evolved, decade after decade. This delicate white eyelet skirt was gifted to Alf's mom in 1969 and after so many years, memories and adventures, travelled all the way from Salento and arrived to Turin, in my wardrobe, still in immaculate shape.

But its journey is not over yet, actually it just began! It will travel across Europe, visiting darling ladies with a love for the past, who will give it a new life and new memories. Cécile and I couldn't wait to tell you about this project and, eventually, the adventure of the vintage skirt has started!

La cosa piu' romantica nell'indossare un capo vintage per me e' immaginare la sua storia, a chi appartenesse, quanti posti abbia visitato, in che modo veniva indossato e come siano cambiati gli abbinamenti man mano che il tempo passava, trasformandosi e reinventandosi decade dopo decade. 

Questa leggerissima gonna bianca in sangallo era stata regalata alla mamma di Alf nel 1969 e, dopo tanti anni, ricordi ed avventure, dal Salento e' arrivata a Torino, nel mio armadio, ancora perfetta e splendente. 

Ma il suo viaggio non e' ancora finito, anzi, e' appena cominciato! Sta per fare le valigie per attraversare tutta l'europa, visitando fanciulle dal gusto d'altri tempi, ognuna delle quali la interpretera' secondo la propria personalita' e le regalera' nuovi ricordi. Io e Cécile sognavamo di raccontare questo progetto da un anno, e finalmente la gonna vintage ha iniziato la sua avventura! 

This is how I styled it, I wanted to emphasize the innocent white so I picked a very simple black top and a dark red lipstick, to add a touch of color and a bit of mistery. The vintage belt is from the 50s and it's another little treasure from the same endless wardrobe... which definitely reminds me of someone with the same passion for pretty clothes :)

This project, other than having the pure purpose of having fun and giving a new life to our little finds, is also a sweet way to exchange styling tips and inspiration for things we already have in our closets. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we did!

Questa e' la mia versione, volevo esaltarne il bianco candidissimo così ho scelto una semplice magliettina nera e un rossetto rosso scuro, per dare un tocco di colore e un velo di mistero. La cintura vintage e' degli anni '50 ed e' un altro piccolo tesoro proveniente da quel guardaroba infinito... che mi ricorda decisamente qualcuno con lo stesso amore per i vestiti :)

La seconda destinazione del viaggio non poteva che essere Cécile, e potete vedere come ha interpretato la gonna qui. 

Questo progetto, oltre ad avere il puro scopo di divertirci tra amiche dando una nuova vita a piccoli tesori ritrovati, e' anche un modo carino di scambiarci idee per abbinare le cose che abbiamo gia' nell'armadio. Quale sara' la prossima tappa del viaggio della gonna bianca? E' un segreto! Ma lo scoprirete presto leggendoci nei prossimi giorni e venendoci a trovare sabato al Fashion Camp a Milano, dove Cécile ed io parleremo un po' di piu' del nostro progetto (tutte le info qui).
