First snowfall

It's snowing, eventually! Maybe it's because I don't drive or maybe it's because I'm still 6 at heart, but I LOVE snow, and this winter wouldn't have been complete without cute delicate snowflakes. Of course I was absolutely unprepared to that (I was already transitioning to springy-floral mode) so I found myself in ankle boots, suddenly sinking into ten inches of snow...

Nevica, nevica, nevicaaa!!! Sara' perche' non guido la macchina, sara' perche' sono rimasta ferma all'eta' di sei anni, ma io ADORO la neve, e questo inverno non sarebbe stato completo senza una bella nevicata come si deve. Ovviamente la cosa mi ha colta completamente impreparata (ero gia' in modalita' fiorellini) e cosí mi sono trovata con le mie belle scarpette immersa in ben 15 centimetri di bianco candore. E vabbe'...

Ah well, fortunately Chie Mihara knows how to make shoes so they kept my feet unbelievably dry and warm all day! 
The 50s bag is another little treasure from Alf's mom closet. It must have been made with the same magic of Mary Poppins' bag, as it looks tiny but I can fit the whole world into it. In fact, that's where I was keeping my camera that day! The leather gloves are vintage too, I love their color and they're super soft inside. I'm always amazed at how accessories were made so well in the past: both things are very sturdy and still look brand new after so many decades. 
And last but not least, the coat I'm wearing is from Orla Kiely, hands-down the warmest coat I've ever worn and my lucky find of these winter sales. I've been dreaming of it since last february (!) when the first pictures from London fashion week started to pop up over the web, and every day I hoped that one of these beauties in my size made it to the sales... it's been hard to resist, but at last my devotion has been greatly rewarded :)

Ma per fortuna le mie francesine sono fatte proprio bene e non hanno lasciato entrare neanche una goccia d'acqua! Chie Mihara tutta la vita.
La borsetta e' degli anni '50, arriva dall'armadio della mamma di Alf e sospetto sia stata fatta dallo stesso artigiano di fiducia di Mary Poppins, perche' sembra piccina ma dentro ci stanno un'infinita' di cose (infatti e' lì che tenevo la macchina fotografica). Vintage anche i guanti di pelle, hanno un colore bellissimo, finiture impeccabili e dentro sono super morbidi. Resto sempre sconvolta dalla cura con cui venivano fatte le cose di una volta, sia la borsa che i guanti sono ancora perfetti nonostante siano passati così tanti anni.
Il cappottino invece, saltato in cima alla mia classifica dei cappotti piu' caldi di tutti i tempi, e' di Orla Kiely ed e' il mio "bottino ninja" dei saldi. Lo desideravo dallo scorso febbraio (!) quando sono apparse le prime foto della collezione presentata alla fashion week londinese e ogni giorno ho pregato che resistesse fino ai saldi invernali... e infine la mia devozione e' stata premiata! Santa pazienza :)

Orla Kiely Spring 2012

Even if you're going to see me around wrapped in a warm coat for the next few weeks, these beautiful days of sunshine had me daydreaming of light spring frocks, peachy shades and sailor collars. So while I count the days to slip in my new trench coat from the Resort collection (which I strongly invite you to check out, it's absolutely amazing), I'm having a look at the new collection from Orla Kiely and once again it's packed with adorable pieces I would wear every single day of the season. It's hard to pick up a favorite, but I definitely have my eyes on the pleated dress above, the nautical romper and the 40s frock below... better start saving your pennies, Ale!

Anche se nelle prossime settimane continuerete a vedermi arrotolata in un caldo cappotto (se non si fosse capito, sono freddolosissima), queste splendide giornate di sole non mi hanno impedito di cominciare a sognare abitini primaverili, colori pastello e colletti alla marinara. Così, mentre conto i giorni che mi separano dal momento in cui potro' finalmente infilarmi nel mio trench nuovo (questo, amore a prima vista) (se non avete ancora visto la collezione Resort, date un'occhiata perche' e' un amore) (Cécile, detto fatto, evviva le doppie e triple parentesi!) uh, ho perso il filo... insomma, in preda a un attacco di primaverilite acuta ho tirato fuori le foto della nuova collezione di Orla Kiely, che tanto per cambiare mi hanno lasciata stecchita. E' difficile scegliere un capo preferito, ma di sicuro ho i miei occhietti puntati verso l'abitino a pieghe quassu', il "romper" alla marinara e il vestito anni '40 qui sotto... forse e' meglio iniziare a metterla qualche monetina nel salvadanaio, Ale!

Dusky pink

When it comes to hairstyling, I'm the laziest person in the world. I could seriously spend hours having fun with makeup or deciding which shoes to wear, but anything 'hairspray & bobby pin' related... can't handle it! My hair is very long and quite straight, so I usually just give it a quick brush and off I go. The fanciest thing I can do is to pop on a girly headband or go for a side braid when it's roasting in the summer, but that's pretty much it. So, since spending more time on hairstyling is my second new year's resolutions, I decided to try something different and here it is...even though I don't know exactly 'what' it is :)

Quando si tratta di acconciature, sono senza dubbio la persona piu' pigra del mondo. Posso seriamente dedicare delle ore a truccarmi o a decidere che scarpe mettermi, ma per qualsiasi cosa abbia a che fare con lacca e forcine... non ce la posso fare! I miei capelli sono molto lunghi e liscissimi quindi, per quanto mi riguarda, una spazzolata e sono pronta. Il massimo a cui possa arrivare e' indossare un cerchietto carino o farmi una treccia laterale quando scoppio di caldo in estate, ma tutto lì. Così, dal momento che dedicare piu' tempo ai miei capelli sara' il mio secondo buon proposito per l'anno nuovo, lo scorso weekend ho deciso di provare qualcosa di diverso ed eccolo qua... non chiedetemi però "cosa" sia perche' non lo so :)

You might remember this silver necklace as it was featured in one of my "Things I'm loving" posts. It's handmade by the lovely lady of Paperface boutique on Etsy and the dandelion locked into the antique frame is so sweet. 

The pretty peter pan collar belongs to one of my dearest winter dresses, from Licia Florio. I didn't manage to photograph it well since it was quite freezing to stay outside without a coat on, but I absolutely adore it: the color, the texture, the line, the weight of the fabric, everything about it is simply perfect. Not to mention the full skirt, very flattering and ladylike, I always enjoy wearing it.

Forse vi ricorderete di questo ciondolo d'argento, lo avevo incluso in una delle mie liste di "Cose che mi piacciono". E' fatto a mano dalla gentile signora della boutique Paperface su Etsy e il soffione custodito sotto il vetro e' un amore.

Invece quel colletto bellissimo appartiene a uno degli abiti che amo di piu', di Licia Florio. Non sono riuscita a mostrarlo come avrei voluto, quando Alf mi ha scattato queste foto a Torino si schiattava di freddo e con l'eta' che avanza non e' proprio un'idea geniale andare in giro senza cappotto ;) Ma vi prometto che lo rivedrete presto perche' lo sto proprio adorando: il colore, la texture, la linea, il peso del tessuto, e' perfetto in tutto. Non parliamo poi della gonna a ruota, un incanto!

Ireland

Home sweet home! I'm eventually back from Kilkenny and it's been ten incredibly intense days, full of pleasant surprises. This trip meant a lot to Alf and myself, both professionally and personally, but there will be plenty of time to tell you about it! Anyway, we've been drawing like mad and didn't really have the time to take some pictures of this beautiful green island, so... I took you with me to work instead, haha! Get ready to see me in full on sloth mode in the picture below ;)

Finalmente di ritorno da Kilkenny: casa dolce casa! Sono stati dieci giorni super impegnativi e pieni di sorprese, Alf e io siamo molto felici delle novità che ha portato e che portera' questo viaggio. Praticamente non abbiamo avuto un attimo di respiro, abbiamo disegnato tantissimo ogni giorno e la sera eravamo cotti a puntino! Così, non avendo avuto tempo per viaggetti e fotografie immerse nel verde di quest'isola bellissima, ho pensato di portarvi con me a lavoro, haha! Preparatevi a vedermi in modalita' "bradipo mattutino" nella foto qui sotto ;)

Winter schoolgirl

By the time you see this post I'll be in Ireland with Alf, completely absorbed by another exciting animation project to work on! I can't tell much about it yet, but has to do with a certain "big fat panda" and it's the sort of thing that almost makes you panic because it's just to good to be true :) It feels so nice to be flipping my drawings again after such an intense year of storyboard, teaching and illustrations, which I loved of course, but animation is what really fills my heart with happiness. Anyway, I'll be back soon!
These are a few pictures we snapped in Bergamo during the holidays, and see? I'm wearing separates for once! My sartorial new year's resolution number one: wear way more skirts and blouses. It's so practical after all, it gives me more chances to incorporate vintage pieces in my outfits and makes layering even more fun!

Mentre voi leggerete questo post io saro' di nuovo nella mia Irlanda con Alf, full-immersi in un nuovo progetto di lavoro (fichissimo)! Non posso ancora raccontarvi molto per via dei malefici segreti di produzione, ma ha a che fare con un "panda molto grasso a cui piace il kung fu" ed e' quel genere di cosa che fa venire un po' la tremarella perche' e' troppo bella per essere vera :) Ad ogni modo, tornerò presto!
Queste sono alcune foto che abbiamo scattato a Bergamo durante le vacanze natalizie, e finalmente mi potete vedere di nuovo indossare qualcosa che non sia un abito! Miracolo, no? Ma ho deciso di essere buona e questo sara' il mio buon proposito "sartoriale" numero uno dell'anno nuovo: meno vestiti e piu' gonne, maglie e camicette. O almeno tanto-quanto. Ecco via, forse così ce la posso fare!
