Fringe update!

Just a quick update to thank you ladies for the support and all the lovely messages you wrote me on the last post about my mad-hairdresser-trauma :) After a second DIY session I came to a result that I actually like. It feels fun and inspires me to wear more romantic accessories and try on new hairdos! 
Today is my first day of holiday, yay! I just finished my latest book which has drained me, so much that I actually didn't even have the time to think how I would spend these freedom days... honestly, I think I'll just lie down on the couch with the cats and happily procrastinate! Volevo ringraziarvi una per una per il supporto post-trauma-frangetta-anni-80 e tutti i messaggi carini che mi avete lasciato nell'ultimo post :) Dopo una seconda sessione di fai da te sono giunta a un risultato che finalmente mi piace e mi fa venir voglia di provare nuove acconciature e accessori piu' romantici. A volte mi sento un po' Ransie la Strega, ma per una che e' cresciuta a pane e cartoni animati e li fa anche di mestiere son soddisfazioni!
Oggi e' il mio primo giorno di vacanza, ho finito di illustrare il mio ultimo libro proprio ieri sera e mi ha disintegrata! Talmente tanto che non ho avuto neanche il tempo di pensare a come avrei trascorso questi giorni di liberta'... ma molto probabilmente sara' vegetando sul divano insieme ai gatti! Buon weekend care :)

Patience

So it looks like I have a fringe now... thing is, it wasn't really meant to be there! I went to the salon last saturday, you know just to be a good girl and avoid messing it up with my scissors on a lazy afternoon as I always do. Well, apparently Miss Hairdresser didn't really want to wait and listen to how I wanted my hair to look like and as soon as she heard the words "cut" and "bangs"she started chopping like a mad... I swear I was shocked! Obviously I very much hated the result, the fringe was short, 80s-like-sparse and I felt as if I were 8 years old. But instead of start crying, I kept my aplomb, ran home, re-shampooed everything, calmed down, took my scissors and patiently tried to fix it. The last thing I wanted was a full fringe and I still feel a bit weird when I look at the mirror, but at least it's not as terrible as it was a couple of days ago... ah, whatever! It will grow back in a month so for now I'm in full on zen-mode and promise I'll do my best to enjoy it :)

Sembra proprio che io ora abbia una frangia. Diciamo che non doveva andare esattamente così... Sabato mattina sono andata dal parrucchiere, proprio per fare la brava ragazza che non combina disastri con le forbici in mano, mentre si annoia in preda a un attacco fai-da-te (come invece faccio sempre). Beh, apparentemente Miss Parrucchiera quel giorno non aveva la pazienza di ascoltare come volevo i miei capelli, e appena ha sentito le parole "taglio" e "ciuffo" ha azionato quel rasoietto malefico e ha cominciato a tagliare... vi giuro che ero pietrificata! Ovviamente ho odiato il risultato, era una frangetta sfigatissima stile anni '80, corta, rada e bombata, e mi sentivo come se facessi la terza elementare. Ma invece di scoppiare in lacrime, ho mantenuto il mio aplomb, sono sfrecciata a casa, mi sono rifatta lo shampoo, mi sono calmata e con lucidita' ho preso le forbici cercando di riparare il riparabile. Non era proprio cio' che volevo e quando mi guardo allo specchio mi sento ancora un po' strana, ma almeno adesso posso uscire di casa... santa pazienza! In un mesetto ricrescera', quindi per ora sono in modalita' zen e faro' di tutto per farmela piacere :)

Sessun Spring 2012

This is a serious pretty spring collection! Today I'd like to share with you another favorite from Sessun. I really loved the way they played with color block last autumn: keeping it quiet, thanks to a very wise use of the shades and silhouettes. And this season they managed to do it again, choosing a warm color palette (no fluo madness here!) that results into a very delicate feel.
I love all the dark reds, creams and touches of yellow ochre. Add some navy stripes and printed silk headbands and everything goes straight into my spring wishlist!

Questa e' una delle mie collezioni primaverili preferite! Lo scorso autunno avevo adorato il modo in cui Sessun aveva trattato il color block: con discrezione e buon gusto, c'era ma non accecava gli occhi, grazie ad un uso molto saggio delle tonalita' usate e delle silhouette. E con questa stagione ci sono riusciti di nuovo, scegliendo una palette calda e poco satura (niente orrori fluo, evviva!) che crea un effetto molto delicato.
Adoro i rossi scuri, i crema e i tocchi di giallo caldo. Aggiungiamoci righe navy e foulard di seta stampati e va tutto dritto nella mia lista dei desideri!

what I wore yesterday (vintage dress and bag, h&m coat, zara shoes)

When my old phone died two months ago and I decided to open my heart to the wonderful world of smartphones, the very first app I was curious to download was Instagram. Oh my, I didn't expect it was going to be that addictive! It's so much fun to snap away without having to worry too much about making a picture perfect, and browsing through other people's feed is always like diving into a pool of inspiration. These are some photos from the past month. I usually publish them on twitter and facebook as well but I thought that, since there's a lot of people who don't have - or wish to subscribe to - any of these social networks (hello mom!), I would share them here too, once in a while. Get ready for plenty of cliché teacups, kittens, food (you'll realize that I'm ALWAYS eating), pretty buildings and fancy feet shots!

Quando un paio di mesi fa il mio vecchio nokia mi abbandono' e decisi di aprire finalmente il mio cuore al meraviglioso mondo degli smartphone, la prima app che ho voluto scaricare e' stata Instagram. Ecco, nelle istruzioni non c'era scritto pero' che si sarebbe impossessata della mia anima! Scherzi a parte, e' divertentissima, soprattutto per il fatto di poter scattare fotografie in giro senza preoccuparsi troppo che siano perfette, e poi sfogliare tra le foto dei propri contatti e' sempre una ventata d'aria fresca. Questi sono alcuni degli ultimi scatti, di solito li pubblico anche su twitter e facebook, ma non tutti hanno (o vogliono perdere il proprio tempo su) questi social network (ciao, mamma!), così ho pensato di condividerli anche qui, una volta ogni tanto. Preparatevi a tante foto cliché di tazzine, gatti, cibo (vi accorgerete che sto SEMPRE mangiando qualcosa), palazzi carini e scarpette viste dall'alto!

Audrey Grace magazine

Oh, I'm a watercolor drawing :) I woke up with this sweet surprise today, it's the first time I see an illustrated head-to-toe version of myself. Thank you so much, Natasha Thompson!

The editorial is part of the AudreyGrace magazine, which has been put together to celebrate the launch of the New York popup shop this friday. The layout is very pretty and it's an enjoyable read too, as it's packed with interviews, interesting articles and beautiful photography. It feels so flattering for me to be featured alongside with my all time favorite bloggers, designers, stylists and photographers. You can browse through the pages of the magazine below!

Michelle Williams for Band of Outsiders

A lookbook shot in a Los Angeles cemetery and a collection inspired by the movie Picnic at Hanging-Rock: to me this is a win-win already, but if you want to add a little touch of ethereal, fresh and whimsical to it, just imagine that it's modeled by Michelle Williams! She looks stunning in these polaroids and actually seems to be completely comfortable in these clothes by Band of Outsiders, as if they came straight from her own wardrobe. Feminine yet not excessively sweet dresses, boyfriend linen blazers, cross-cross braces, floral skirts in soft silk georgette and a black and white palette with occasional pops of blue. A perfect mix of delicate and tomboy, exactly like Michelle. Swoon!

Un lookbook ambientato in un cimitero di Los Angeles e una collezione ispirata al film horror Picnic a Hanging-Rock: per me e' gia' una combinazione magica, ma se vogliamo aggiungere anche un pizzico di etereo, fresco e sognante, immaginiamo che il tutto sia interpretato da Michelle Williams! In queste polaroid la trovo bellissima e tra l'altro sembra essere completamente a suo agio negli abiti di Band of Outsiders, come fossero presi direttamente dal suo guardaroba. Vestiti femminili ma non sdolcinati, blazer di cotone dal taglio maschile, bretelle, romantiche gonne in georgette lunghissime e una palette in bianco e nero con qualche tocco di blu. Un mix perfetto tra fanciulla eterea e 'tomboy', un po' come lei, per cui il tempo sembra quasi essersi fermato e che nel mio cuore rimarra' sempre e comunque la Jen dei miei anni da teenager :)

Lazzari Spring/Summer 2012

I have absolutely loved last autumn/winter Lazzari collection and I have been patiently waiting for the spring one to come, curious to discover if I would have enjoyed it as much. The answer is YES, YES, YES! This is one of the prettiest lookbook films I've seen in months and all the pieces are fun and wearable, yet very ladylike and with that 60s playful vibe that I adore. Add a whale print dress and I'm on board!

Vi ricordate quanto era carina la collezione di Lazzari dello scorso autunno? Io l'ho adorata e ho atteso pazientemente di scoprire se quella primaverile mi avrebbe fatto lo stesso effetto. La risposta e' SÌ, SÌ, SÌ! Questo e' uno dei lookbook piu' incantevoli che abbia visto negli ultimi mesi, i capi sono semplici e divertenti ma allo stesso tempo molto per bene e con quella spensierata nota anni '60 che per me, come ben sapete, e' un richiamo irresistibile. Aggiungiamoci anche un abitino con le balene stampate e sono definitivamente conquistata!

Unexpected treasures

I love my town. Last saturday I was just casually walking in the city centre with Alf, enjoying my new trench coat heading towards our favorite tea place and... oh! A vintage market! Oh, so many many pretty things! Ohh?! A pair of gorgeously red vintage Ferragamo?!? Dear goodness, I was about to have a heart attack when I saw them from the other side of the square. Unfortunately they were SO not my size, sigh. I wish I had tiny feet like apparently every gentlelady of the past, it seems to be so hard to find a cute pair of vintage shoes today when you have a size 39... but I know that some day I'll succeed and be happily walking in the Vara flats of my dreams.

Anyways, the market! It was the one called "Extravaganza" that usually takes place every second saturday of the month here in Turin, but last time it got postponed for weather reasons, so that's why the unexpected surprise! And it was truly packed with lovely little treasures. My favorite bit is always browsing through old advert illustrations, I find them smart, incredibly elegant and artistically inspiring.

Adoro la mia citta'. Lo scorso sabato stavo passeggiando con Alf in direzione torteria, godendomi la brezza primaverile e il mio trench nuovo e... oh? Un mercatino vintage! Oh, quante cose carine! Oh?! Un paio di Ferragamo rosse fiammanti?!?? Non potevo credere ai miei occhi quando le ho avvistate dall'altro lato della piazza... ho trascinato il povero Alf verso la bancarella a velocità giaguaro-della-patagonia, ma purtroppo no, erano molto, molto piccole :( Ahh, quanto vorrei avere i piedini microscopici come le gentilsignorine del passato! Sembra essere così complicato oggi trovare un paio di scarpette vintage per una che ha un 39... ma io so che un giorno ci riusciro' e trotterellero' (vi sfido a dirlo tre volte di fila) per le vie della citta' nelle ballerine Vara dei miei sogni.

Ad ogni modo, il mercatino! E' quello che si chiama "Extravaganza" e di solito e' ogni secondo sabato del mese in piazza Carlo Alberto. L'ultima volta pero' e' stato posticipato perche' faceva troppo freddo, e così ecco svelato il motivo della sorpresa! E come sempre, era pieno di piccoli tesori. Una delle cose che faccio sempre e' perdermi tra le vecchie stampe di illustrazioni pubblicitarie, le trovo divertenti, incredibilmente eleganti e artisticamente sono per me un'inesauribile fonte di ispirazione.
