Stripey sunday - part 2: The vintage fair

And here are the snaps from the unexpected vintage fair! This is the market that usually takes place every second saturday of the month, but thanks to the San Giovanni festival we got a little extra treat! And it takes place in the very heart of the city centre, so the atmosphere is quite charming. Last time I found the Ferragamo flats of my dreams... if only they weren't so tiny! But that's the fun in browsing through piles of vintage treasures: sometimes you win, sometimes you don't, either way you can never get bored! There was pretty much anything: pretty purses, dancing shoes, rare vinyls, sugar bowls, old frames, random furniture, sewing machines, weird books, silk flowers and family portraits from the 30s. I came back home with the most beautiful lace dress I've ever found hanging on a rack of old things, even more precious to me as Alf offered it to me as a surprise gift! I hope I'll find that lovely vintage seller again next time, as all her clothes were very affordable and the quality absolutely excellent. Ahh I love love love my town!

Ed ecco la fiera del vintage a sorpresa! Questo e' il mercatino in piazza Carlo Alberto del secondo sabato del mese, in versione extra per la festa del patrono, ed e' lo stesso in cui l'ultima volta avevo trovato le ballerine Ferragamo dei miei sogni... peccato fossero minuscole ma vabbe', anche i rosicamenti fanno ben parte della caccia al tesoro, ed e' per questo che il vintage e' divertente: in mezzo a bancarelle così non ci si annoia mai! Come al solito c'era di tutto: borsette, scarpe da ballo, vecchi vinili, scatole, vecchie cornici, mobili, macchine da cucire a pedale, libri dai titoli strani, fiori di seta ingialliti dal tempo e foto di famiglie degli anni 30. Io sono tonata a casa con un abito di pizzo color crema meraviglioso, ancora piu' bello perche' e' stato Alf a volermelo regalare, santo fidanzato! Spero di ritrovare la venditrice simpatica la prossima volta (che dovrebbe essere il 14 luglio), perche' tutti i suoi abiti avevano prezzi onestissimi ed erano veramente di ottima qualita'. Chi viene a curiosare con me? :)

Stripey sunday - part 1: lazy walks and candies

Last sunday we headed to the San Giovanni festival, which celebrates the patron saint of Turin and it's just the perfect excuse to enjoy a lazy afternoon in the city centre, with parades, bonfires, traditional music and food. So here I am, collapsing on a bench with my favorite candies enjoying the summer sunshine. Alf and I took so many photos that I just couldn't pick a few (picture overload alert!), especially because at some point we literally stumbled upon an unexpected vintage fair... so I'll tell you more in the next post!

La scorsa domenica era San Giovanni, la festa del patrono di Torino e come tutti gli anni non c'e' scusa migliore per fare una passeggiata in centro, finire in mezzo alle parate (!), vedere i fuochi d'artificio, mangiucchiare caramelle Leone (che sono fatte proprio qui e sono le mie preferite da quando ero piccola) e spiaggiarsi su una panchina in una bella piazza godendosi l'estate. Io e Alf abbiamo fatto una tonnellata di fotografie, soprattutto perche' a un certo punto e' sbucato fuori un mercatino vintage a sorpresa... E quindi vi raccontero' meglio nel prossimo post!  

This stripey blouse is a gift from Iris, a friend and lovely gal who works at Pepa Loves, which is a spanish brand that I recently discovered and fell in love with. Every garment in their collection looks fresh, has the right amount of cute and it's affordable too.
I knew that my afternoon was going to involve a lot of walking (I did check on my phone and apparently I hit 11km that day!) so I picked my trusty Pastelle sandals (you have already met them here), which are a great compromise between comfortable and pretty. 
The red ribbon is vintage, found at another local market, and the skirt-that-goes-with-everything is from Orla Kiely, snagged with my highly sophisticated 'ninja technique' at the sales ;)

Questa graziosa magliettina a righe e' un regalo di Iris, che e' una cara amica e una blogger adorabile e da un po' lavora con Pepa Loves, un marchio spagnolo fresco, lezioso al punto giusto e con prezzi molto onesti in rapporto alla qualita'. 
Immaginando un pomeriggio di lunghe camminate (infatti per curiosita' ho tenuto il conto dei passi e ho macinato 11 chilometri! O_O) sono andata dritta verso un paio di scarpe comode e questi sandali Pastelle (che avete visto qui) mi sono stati grandi alleati, pur rimanendo molto femminili :)
Il nastro rosso e' vintage, mentre la gonna-preferita-che-va-con-tutto l'ho presa in saldo dalla (malefica) Orla Kiely con la mia solita tattica ninja: studiare l'obiettivo per mesi - aspettare - aspettare - aspettare - rosicare - colpire appena iniziano i saldi prima che le inglesi shopaholic (da che pulpito) facciano sparire la mia taglia :) Al prossimo post con la fiera vintage a sorpresa!

Dear Creatures - Summer 2012

Yaay summer is here eventually and I'm definitely not going to complain! Maybe it's because I was born in august, but this weather makes me instantly happy and all I want to wear is light, comfortable dresses, sandals and a big floppy hat to protect me from the blinding sunlight. 

Dressing up like if I was on a holiday in the Aeolian islands somehow makes me feel like I'm there for real, close to the sea, discovering new landscapes and eating in cute little restaurants by the wharf (OMG, ok I'll stop here!) and well, everything I do just becomes easier if I have a smile on my face. So here's a pretty collection that I would gladly sport these days, Dear Creatures never ceases to leave me smitten! And shall we talk about that stripey beauty below? I'm in love. Happy summer everyone!

Evviva, e' arrivato il caldo come si deve e no no, io non ho nessuna intenzione di lamentarmene! Sara' che sono nata ad agosto, ma a me questo clima mette una gran felicita' e tutto cio' che desidero indossare sono vestitini freschi, tessuti svolazzanti, sandali bassi e cappelli per ripararmi dal sole. Vestirmi come se fossi in vacanza alle Eolie mi da' un po' l'illusione di essere al mare per davvero, anche quando invece sono incasinata nera di lavoro, in qualche modo tutto piu' leggero quando hai il sorriso dipinto sul viso! E allora ecco qui una collezioncina carina carina e molto adatta a questi giorni, Dear Creatures non ne sbaglia una. E vogliamo parlare di questo abito a righe blu? Ecco, mi avete capita :) Buona Estate!

It really is no secret that I'm a huge fan of Simon Filip and his beautiful sister muse Becky. Together they always create the most whimsical photography and these pictures are no exception.

I wasn't even nearly done picking up my favorite things from the spring collection to chase as soon as the sales start - no wait, I wasn't even done dreaming and making silly collages (I love doing that!) of the looks from the autumn/winter collection (ohh, those pretty burgundy coats...) that voilà! The Resort collection for next year unexpectedly pops up like a cute little mushroom! That lady clearly knows how to make me sigh... :) So since we were speaking of boat prints and I would very gladly slip into all these pretty outfits immediately, I thought it was the perfect time to share these Orla Kiely pictures with you. As always, a feast for the eyes. (And by the way, where did she find those amazing shoes?)

Nemmeno il tempo di studiarmi i capi di questa primavera che puntero' come un falco appena inizieranno i saldi - anzi no, nemmeno il tempo di sognare e crocettare (io AMO mettere le crocette sui cataloghi) quelli della collezione invernale (ahhh, ci sono certi cappottini...) che puff! Ecco che ti salta fuori come un funghetto la collezione Resort, per l'anno prossimo! Questa donna mi vuole rovinare, ormai ne ho la certezza. Vabbe'. Visto che siamo in tema di stampe con le barchette e dal momento che mi infilerei in ognuno di questi deliziosi abitini all'istante, ho pensato di condividere con voi queste foto di Orla Kiely, come al solito una piu' bella dell'altra. (Tra l'altro, ma dove le trova ogni volta delle scarpe così belle?)

A weekend suitcase

Sunshine + 35°C + gentle breeze = dangerous combination. Lately I'm spending most of my days dreaming of lazy afternoons by the sea, with a floppy hat, the company of a good book and the sound of the waves. Turns out, this summer I probably won't be able to enjoy a proper 'holiday on the beach' as I'll be quite busy organizing a little something that I'll be sharing with you too :) Thank goodness we have weekends, so I'm going to treat myself with a few day trips here and there on the italian coast, which is just a couple of hours away from Turin and full of beautiful spots to explore. I can already see myself walking on the shore wearing:

1. my cat eye sunglasses, found last year at the vintage fair

2. a big romantic straw hat with a cream ribbon

3. my favorite retro bathing suit from Seafolly, a true beauty!

4. a striped tee that tells me how broke I'll end up being when the Aubin&Wills summer sales start

5. my beloved Pastelle sandals, perfect during the day with a pair of shorts and a canvas tote and cute as a button paired with an evening dress

6. a navy wrap dress, I bought it last summer at Max&co and it's got the most summery boat print I've ever seen!

Well now that my suitcase is ready I guess I'll just be looking forward to the weekend! Don't forget sunscreen ;)

Il sole e il caldo di questi giorni non hanno messo anche a voi voglia di scappare dalla città, prendere un cappello di paglia, un vestito fresco e correre verso la spiaggia? Quest'estate (per una ragione che scoprirete prestissimo) saro' presa da mille cose a cui pensare e non riusciro' ad organizzare una vera e propria "vacanza estiva"... Ma questo di certo non mi impedira' di regalarmi qualche piccola gita al mare qua e là, passeggiando beata sulla sabbia con: 

1. occhiali da sole cat-eye, trovati a 10 euro al mercatino vintage un anno fa

2. un grande cappello di paglia (il fiocco romantico non manca mai!)

3. un bel costume retrò, del marchio australiano Seafolly, che sembra uscito dagli anni '50: felicità.

4. una magliettina a righe che-fa-subito-spiaggia e che mi ha fatto capire che Aubin&Wills ai saldi mi rovinerà

5. scarpe comode! Ecco quindi i miei adorabili sandali Pastelle, perfetti sia di giorno con un paio di shorts e una borsa da mare che la sera con un abitino grazioso

6. l'abitino grazioso, che avevo comprato l'anno scorso da Max&co e mi fa venir voglia di gelato-serale-al-porto solo a guardarlo!

Beh, ora che la valigia e' pronta dovro' solo aspettare che arrivi il weekend! Non dimenticate la crema solare ;)
