Goodbye, summer

This is probably going to be my last post for the summer, and the last one as a fiancée too. Saturday, other than being my wedding day, it's also the first day of Autumn and I couldn't be happier because it's my very favorite season and I've been very much looking forward to it. I just adore this coincidence :) 

So I wanted to close this little chapter of the year - and of my life - with some black and white photos, it feels a little more romantic this way!

Questo sara' molto probabilmente il mio ultimo post dell'estate e l'ultimo post da signorina! Sabato, oltre ad essere il giorno del mio matrimonio, sara' anche il primo giorno d'Autunno e io non potrei esserne piu' contenta perche' e' in assoluto la mia stagione preferita. Adoro questa coincidenza :) 

E allora ho pensato di chiudere questo capitolo dell'anno e della mia vita in un modo un po' romantico con delle fotografie in bianco e nero. 

These last days of summer have been just about the perfect excuse to wear my pink 40s dress again, you might remember it as I was wearing it in this post and it's one of the vintage finds I'm most proud of. A pair of pretty t-bar sandals (you can find them here), happy sunglasses and off I go for a walk in the city centre! And as you can see in the picture below, I never manage to stay away from cakes and desserts, not even when I should be more careful in order to slip into a wedding dress... can't help ;) .... -2 to the big daaay >_<

Questi ultimi giorni di caldo sono stati una scusa perfetta per indossare ancora una volta il mio abitino rosa degli anni '40, forse lo ricorderete perche' lo avevo anche in questo post ed e' uno dei capi vintage che ho più a cuore. Come ogni anno, ho detto arrivederci alle scarpe aperte per fare spazio ad oxford, stivaletti e mocassini da scolaretta. È un peccato che non si vedano bene in foto perche' sono molto graziose, sono sandali Keys e li trovate qui. E come potete notare nella foto qui sotto, non sono stata in grado di tenermi lontana dai dolci nemmeno con l'obiettivo di entrare dentro un vestito da sposa... e' piu' forte di me, non ce la posso fare ;) ...Meno dueeee >_<

Save the date!

So here we are, saturday is the big day! I honestly lost focus on what's done and what's left to do... Every day something new comes up, it's so hard to keep control of everything and right now I do feel a little disoriented :) But my good old optimism tells me that it's going to be just fine, I cross my fingers for a sunny day and the rest will be aaaall good. In my next life I've got to remember one thing though: no matter how small, simple and rustic your wedding is going to be, the to-do list is exactly the same and you cannot run from stress!

Anyways, these months I've been very good at not spoiling any details, but you know that a lot of things are going to be handmade, so I thought I would've showed you our DIY invitations! I made the design, Alf printed them and my mom helped us with the ribbon. We used a lovely 100% recycled paper with round edges, and the font is not at actual font, it's handwritten in photoshop and inspired by the end credits of a Disney movie. 

And yes, I know that many of you asked me about THE DRESS :) I'll only tell that it's one of the many handmade things in this wedding: I designed it and my amazing mom made it. It's so beautiful *_*

Sembra proprio che ci siamo... sabato è il grande giorno! Ormai ho perso il conto di cosa sia pronto e di cosa ci sia ancora da fare, ogni giorno ne sbuca fuori una nuova e sono completamente in palla :) Ma il mio buon ottimismo mi rassicura che andra' tutto bene, incrociamo le dita che sia una bella giornata di sole e tutto verra' da sè. Nella prossima vita però mi dovro' ricordare una cosa: non importa quanto piccolo, semplice e rustico sia il matrimonio che organizzi, la lista delle cose da fare e' la stessa e allo stress non c'e' scampo! 

Comunque, in questi mesi sono stata bravissima a non anticiparvi niente, a parte il fatto che ci sara' una buona percentuale di "fatto in casa", e allora ho pensato di farvi sbirciare gli inviti che abbiamo preparato con le nostre manine! Io mi sono occupata del design, Alf della stampa e la mia mamma ci ha aiutati con i nastrini che confezionano le due pagine come pacchettini regalo. Abbiamo usato una bellissima carta 100% riciclata con i bordi arrotondati e il font non e' un font, e' scritto a mano su photoshop ed ispirato ai titoli di coda di un film Disney. Tra gli ospiti ci saranno alcuni amici di Londra, e così abbiamo preparato gli inviti anche in inglese, è stato molto divertente! 

E sì, lo so che mi avete chiesto del VESTITO :) Vi diro' soltanto che anche quello e' fatto in casa, su mio disegno e realizzato con tutto l'amore della mamma. E' bellissimo *_*

6. My personal 'torture of the season' is the burgundy coat from Orla Kiely A/W 2012. This picture has been hanging on my wall since last LFW in february, now it's out in the shops and I even managed to dream about it. But before doing anything insane I need to make some room in my coats closet, so keep an eye out, I'm about to announce a happy ebay party ;)

6. Il capottino bordeax della A/W 12 di Orla e' la mia personale tortura della stagione. Questa foto e' appesa nella mia bacheca da febbraio, ora esiste e io nehobbisognotantissimo. Prima pero' dovro' fare un bel po' di spazio nel mio armadio dei cappotti, quindi preparatevi perche' tra poco annuncero' una festicciola su ebay ;) 

7. Yesterday I spent the whole night browsing through "sweetheart bracelets" on Etsy. These expandable pretties were quite popular during WWII and they were usually given by the soldiers to the lady they left behind. Often engraved with initials, the heart centerpiece could also be a locket to keep a little photograph or a handwritten note from the loved one. Isn't it romantic? :)

7. Ieri ho passato tutta la serata guardando "sweetheart bracelets" su Etsy. Questi braccialetti elastici erano molto popolari nella seconda guerra mondiale e venivano regalati alle fanciulle dai loro fidanzati prima che partissero per il fronte. Spesso avevano le iniziali incise sul cuore e in molti c'era anche un meccanismo di apertura a pressione per custodire una fotografia o una frase scritta ad inchiostro. Non e' romantico? :)

8. A practical pair of oxfords. These hazelnut Moma oxfords are just the right thing for a sunday morning in the park, I can already hear the sound of the crispy leaves cracking under my feet...

10. And last but not least, the invincible combo: a good old vinyl, a warm cup of tea, cats on the couch and a soft plaid blanket! The turntable is from Crosley, it was a surprise for Alf's birthday a few months ago and we couldn't live without it (I actually wouldn't mind that matching stand either!), and if you like the kitty mug you can find it here. 10. E infine, la combo invincibile: un bel vinile, tazza di tè caldo, gatti sul divano e plaid!

Il giradischi e' un Crosley, l'ho regalato ad Alf per il suo compleanno qualche mesetto fa e ci ha gia' tenuto un sacco di compagnia (e il tavolino coordinato anni '60 non mi dispiacerebbe affatto!), mentre la tazza felina la trovate qui. Buon primo freddo a tutte :)

Oh my... where did last week go? The wedding is coming sooo close and, being the queen of procrastination, these past few days I've been busy sorting quite a lot of last-minute-things out ;) And it's driven by the same spirit of laziness that the other day Alf and I escaped from our planning duties and ran away to the Royal Park of Racconigi (which I showed you better here) to enjoy the last bits of summer sunshine. 

I'm sure many of you are familiar with this cute little cat dress. It's from Leah Goren and, being such a cat lady myself, I knew that it was only a matter of time before it popped into my closet! It's been sitting in my wishlist since when it came out the first time in this style, but then when I eventually tried that one on I felt like it wasn't the best choice for my rather '50s' body shape :) It's a design meant to be nicely loose and doesn't follow your curves, so I would probably recommend it to ladies with a slender or petite frame instead. In fact, guess who took the lucky chance to snag it immediately? My cat-lady friend Cécile, and as I imagined it looks adorable on her! Fortunately Leah made another dress in this same pattern for Anthropologie and this style is absolutely perfect for my needs. I'm soo happy! So that made two happy cat ladies! Now expect silly pictures with both of us wearing the same frock and making goofy faces in the middle of town.

Questa settimana e' volata senza che nemmeno me ne accorgessi! Manca proprio pochissimo al matrimonio ed, essendo la reginetta del "perchè mai farlo adesso quando tanto puoi farlo domani", in questi ultimi giorni ho accumulato un bel po' di faccende da sbrigare ;) Infatti e' in piena filosofia da cicala che io e Alf abbiamo approfittato di questi ultimi pomeriggi d'estate per fare una passeggiata nel parco di Racconigi (che vi avevo mostrato meglio qui). 

Questo bel vestitino coi gatti e' opera di Leah Goren e, dato il soggetto, non poteva non finire nell'armadio di una gattara come la sottoscritta. Lo puntavo dall'anno scorso, quando comparì per la prima volta nella boutique di etsy in questo modello. Quando finalmente si e' materializzato nelle mia manine, ho dovuto ahime' accettare il fatto che non si prestasse alle mie forme: era un vestitino ampio senza pinces, che sta molto bene a chi ha un fisico asciutto e meno bene a una signorinella con una silhouette piu' anni '50. E quindi che fare? Ho accennato il dilemma alla mia amica gattara Cécile e lei se lo e' portato a casa senza pensarci due volte! Per fortuna Leah ha creato un abito con lo stesso pattern felino anche per Anthropologie, e il modello e' decisamente azzeccato. Due gattare felici! Ora aspettatevi foto imbarazzanti in cui lo indossiamo entrambe nel bel mezzo della città.

ps - chi riesce a trovare il musino da gatto sui miei sandali vince una tazza di tè!
